First, we can assure you that the way your child is positioned is not a safety risk. As long as your child is meet the seat's minimum requirements, they have the appropriate head and neck strength to reposition themselves if uncomfortable.
Having said that, we have a few tips we can give you that will help you ensure that the seat is adjusted optimally for your little one and may influence the way they sit in the seat.
- If the seat can be reclined further while still keeping it within the allowed range, increasing the angle will best ensure that your child is sitting as far back and reclined as possible. Ensure the seat is adjusted into the rear-facing recline by flipping the recline foot to the rear-facing position, and positioned so that the Rear-Facing Reference Line for children under 22 lb is parallel with ground level.
- Ensure that the Harness Straps are routed through the slots at or just below and closest to the child's shoulder level, as this will affect the way they sit in the seat.
- Ensure the headrest is positioned so that the headrest does not push down into the Harness Straps but still provides at least 1" of space between the top of your child's head and the top of the headrest.
- Ensure that the crotch strap is installed in the slot which is at or just underneath your child's body, as a gap between the strap and their body can lead to slouching which promotes head slumping. Please note we now do allow the longer length of crotch strap to be used in both slots.
- Ensure that your child is sitting with their back flush against the backrest of the seat, with their bottoms scooted as far back as possible.
