The crotch strap may be adjusted to the longer length if it appears that the webbing is either too short or too tight on your child. Before adjusting the crotch strap length, you will first need to remove the seat cushion.
For a rear-facing child:
The crotch strap should be adjusted to the inner position for most rear-facing children. Older/larger rear-facing children who are even with the outer crotch strap slot may use the outer position while rear-facing provided there is not a gap between their body and the crotch strap webbing. It's important that the webbing is snug to your child in order to prevent slouching.
To adjust the crotch strap to the longer length and inner position:
For a forward-facing child:
The crotch strap should be adjusted to the longer length and the outer crotch strap slot for most forward-facing children. Refer to your car seat manual for any exceptions to this recommendation.
To adjust the crotch strap to the longer length and outer position:
Installing the seat cushion after changing the crotch strap length/position:
Be careful to route the crotch strap through the same position in the seat cushion as the crotch strap is adjusted to in your car seat. If the crotch strap is routed incorrectly when the seat cushion is re-installed, this can lead to some length of webbing being caught underneath the seat cushion, potentially leading to hidden slack in the harness. It may also damage the seat cushion foam.
